The Queers are a Portsmouth, New Hampshire punk band formed in 1981 and centered on founder, singer and guitarist Joe Queer. Their fast, melodic pop-punk combines Ramones-style drive with surf-pop hooks, vocal harmonies and a deliberately irreverent sense of humor. Albums including Love Songs for the Retarded, Don't Back Down, Punk Rock Confidential and Pleasant Screams established the band's enduring catalog, with favorites such as “This Place Sucks,” “Punk Rock Girls” and “Tamara Is a Punk.” Decades of recording and touring have made The Queers a durable fixture of the American pop-punk underground.
